Have you ever felt like you were meant for something great but found yourself holding back? Maybe it’s the fear of judgment, failure, or even success itself. If that resonates with you, you’re not alone.
One of my biggest mindset shifts came when I read The Law of Divine Compensation by Marianne Williamson. This book completely changed my outlook on wealth and helped me find peace with the idea of financial freedom. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend picking up a copy!
Why We Hold Ourselves Back
When I was younger, I had an undeniable feeling that I was meant to do something great. And when I met my husband, I knew he was, too. Together, I believed we could accomplish so much. But first, we had to go through the refiner’s fire—more on that some other time.
One of the biggest obstacles I faced was self-imposed. It wasn’t external circumstances, lack of resources, or even doubt in my abilities. My biggest struggle? Money.
I worried about what people would think if I had a big house or drove an expensive car. I feared they’d assume I thought I was better than them. So, I chose to play small—not because I wasn’t capable, but because I was afraid of how success might affect my relationships.
If you’ve ever downplayed your dreams because of what others might think, you know exactly what I mean.
The Moment Everything Changed
One of the first times I truly considered that playing big could actually make a difference was at an event where the keynote speaker said, “We want you to be successful!”
For some reason, those words struck me. Up until that moment, I had never thought about my success in terms of how it could positively impact others. It started to shift my mindset.
Not long after that, a dear friend gifted me The Law of Divine Compensation, and I couldn’t put it down. Every sentence spoke to my soul.
The biggest takeaway? When I choose success, I help others create success. When we step into our potential, we create a ripple effect that can change lives, families, and even the world.
Success Isn’t Selfish—It’s a Responsibility
A friend once told me, “People won’t listen to my message until I have the bank account to back it up.”
That might sound harsh, but in today’s world, money gets people’s attention. More importantly, abundance is a tool—it can be used to uplift, inspire, and empower others.
When you allow yourself to succeed:
✅ You show others what’s possible.
✅ You gain a platform to create meaningful change.
✅ You open doors for yourself and for those who follow.
Abundance isn’t just about personal gain—it’s about impact. And the more we step into that truth, the more lives we can touch.
So, Are You Playing Small or Playing Big?
If you’re holding back because of fear, doubt, or outside opinions, ask yourself:
- What’s one step I can take today to shift my mindset?
- What gifts do I have that the world needs?
- How many people’s lives could improve if I fully stepped into my potential?
You have unique talents, passions, and purpose. The world needs you to play big. The sooner you embrace that, the better off you and everyone else will be.
